Linford (Lindy) Larson, from Rosholt, WI, peacefully passed away on October 24, 2018, with his loving wife Dorothy (Dort) by his side. He was 94 years old. Lindy was born on June 9, 1924 in Northland, WI to Michael and Ethel (Rice) Larson. At the age if fourteen, he left home to work as a farmhand. He met Dorothy in 1943 and they were married on November 17, 1945 while he was on leave from the Army. Lindy was a personal witness to history, serving in Germany during the occupation of Berlin following World War II. He was posted in Nuremberg during the Nuremberg Trials. After serving his country, he was employed as a laborer and milk delivery driver, while running his own dairy farm with Dort. Lindy worked alongside his son Perry on the family homestead, the farm, for many years, raising pigs as a part of a small-scale pig operation. He was also employed by Rosholt Schools as a custodian, where he tended to his janitorial duties, while also finding time to play pranks on the school principal and teachers. Each year, Lindy and Dorothy proudly produced a massive vegetable garden and raspberry patch, while also maintaining a small apple orchard. He could always be found somewhere around the farm fixing tractors with his grandsons, restoring an antique thresher machine, or building his very own self-propelled manure spreader, which earned him trophies and other accolades at local and regional parades and thresherees. While he was never one to boast, Lindy was immensely proud of his family. He would grin from ear to ear each time he shared stories about his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Lindy enjoyed summers up north with his children and grandchildren, or at home on the lawnmower. He and Dorothy saved Christmas each and every year by making pounds and pounds of lefse for the family, some of which they ritually ate with lutefisk every Christmas eve. Finally without pain, he will forever watch over his family and friends, now reunited with his son Perry, best friend Donny Carter, and great-granddaughter Paige. Lindy was also preceded in death by his parents and five brothers Edgar, Rex, Orvis, Allen, and Gordon. He is survived by his wife Dorothy of nearly 73 years; his four children, Laverne (Terri) and Paul (Marge) Larson, Pam (Ron) Bootz, and Lynn Larson; his 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and favorite cat he lovingly called Puss. A celebration of Linford’s life will take place on Friday, November 2 at 12 Noon at Faith Lutheran Church in Rosholt, WI. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 10:00 AM - 12:00pm The Reverend Michael Peuse will officiate.
