Jeanne M. Tschurwald

July 16, 1943 — April 4, 2025

Iola

Jeanne Marie Tschurwald, 81, passed away April 4, 2025. She was born on July 16, 1943 in Iola to the late James E. and Iola Olson. She spent her childhood in Iola on South Main Street on what was fondly called "Fertile Hill " because of the abundance of children in the neighborhood. She graduated as a "Hilltopper" in '61. Her father owned a plumbing and heating store in Iola but took on a new career in Northfield Minnesota at St. Olaf College in 1961 Jeanne attended a year at St Olaf before marrying Darrell Tschurwald from Iola. They had two sons and lived in the Wausau area, Oak Creek, Brookfield and Racine. They later divorced. Jeanne went on to get a degree in Interior Design and went to work for Mikasa dinnerware setting up store displays across the United States including Hawaii. She was an excellent seamstress and quilter. She loved and excelled at curling, took cross country trips on the back of a motorcycle, and traveled to Europe. She was fun loving and always open to spur of the moment adventures. She eventually returned to Iola and joined local groups such as Norski Needlers, Red Hatters, Pick a Book book club and was a poll worker. She enjoyed playing Telefunky with her parents, Hand and Foot with her sisters and Bridge with her friends. She was an active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and especially enjoyed the mission quilting group there. She also met the "love of her life" Jim Booker there and they spent a few, too short, years together before he unexpectedly passed.

Jeanne is survived by her sons Mike (Kristin), Jon (Randi), sisters Carol (Tom Sr.) Boyle, Wendy (Dale) Remington, brother David Olson. As well as many nieces and nephews and her only Grandchild, Jack (Mike and Kristin's). She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and sister-in- law Jay and Bea Olson, and nephew Tommy Boyle.

Jeanne moved to Living Oaks in 2021 and then to The Willows in 2023. We want to thank them for the wonderful care she received. Both have excellent caregivers and she was content there. Also thanks to Heartland Hospice Care for their compassionate care of Jeanne and her family.

Jeanne requested a private, family memorial gathering which is being planned. Memorials can be directed to Alzheimer's Research or the charity of your choice.
