Jean H. Morey

February 5, 1928 — January 28, 2023

Jean H. Morey, ended her earthly journey eight days short of her 95th birthday on January 28, 2023 surrounded by her loved ones. Jean was born on February 5, 1928 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, the daughter of Howard and Myrtle (Lyons) Hathaway. Along with her sister, Patricia, the family moved to Vancouver, Washington, finally settling in Astoria, Oregon. Jean shared many stories of the adventures she experienced growing up in this beautiful part of the country. During high school, Jean had the opportunity to become a penpal to a Sailor in the United States Navy who was stationed aboard the USS Hornet. That sailor, Donald Stenson Morey, became Jean’s groom on March 11, 1944. Jean and Don shared many happy memories during their married life, including raising their three sons, Donald, Lawrence, and Scott mostly in the Chicago area. After they retired, Jean and Don moved to a familiar place they often visited during the years, Iola, Wisconsin. Jean enjoyed living near her family and participating in their many get togethers. She spent priceless time with her great grandchildren attending many of their school, sporting, and music events. Jean enjoyed reading and playing Scrabble. Her faith was part of everything she did. Jean lived at Park Vista in Waupaca for 13 years and spent the last year at The Legacy, a higher care assisted living facility owned by Park Vista. Jean is survived by her son, Lawrence (Charmaine) Morey, Hoffman Estates, IL; daughter-in-law, Peggy Morey, Plover, WI; daughter-in-law, Deborah Morey, Iola, WI; grandchildren: Deborah (John Czernicki) Morey, Plover, WI; Dawn (Duane) Wanta, Marshfield, WI; and Hope Danielle (Brad) Faldet, Waupaca, WI. She is further survived by great grandchildren: Jacob (Danielle) Wanta, Plover, WI; Jenna Wanta, Fond du Lac, WI; Stenson Faldet, Appleton, WI; Mason Faldet, Fort Collins, CO; and Madyson Faldet, Waupaca, WI; and by her great, great granddaughter, Anastasia Wanta. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Morey; her sons, Donald Morey and Scott Morey; and her sister, Patricia McKinney. Jean’s family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for the kindness, consideration, and love shown by the caregivers, management, and personnel from Park Vista and The Legacy. As per Jean’s wish, a small graveside ceremony will take place in the spring at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Town of Dayton, Waupaca, Wisconsin.
