Eugene "Gene" Mancel

d. December 22, 2020

**UPDATE** A Celebration of Life will take place for Eugene "Geno" along for his good friend, Harry "the CAT" Wardesky" at the Rosholt Fair Park, on Saturday, July 31, 2021 from 12 Noon - 4:00 PM. Eugene (Geno) Frank Mancel, age 92, of Rosholt, passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2020. He was born on August 3, 1928 in a small, three room house in Horicon, Wisconsin to the late Henry and Mabel (Doughty) Mancl. Geno lived a long, full life, with plenty of stories to share. One of his favorites took place when he was an adventurous young boy. He and a friend liked to climb up to the top of a train trestle to sit and enjoy the view. One time, when they were halfway across the trestle, the train came. There was no time to get off; they had to cling to the side of the bridge until the train passed. Geno said they were lucky that day; they only had to wait five minutes. Sometimes the trains would take 20 minutes to cross that bridge. After moving to Milwaukee, Geno grew from an adventurous young boy into a talented athlete. He excelled in basketball and football. On April 26, 1946, Geno enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. On September 17, 1949, Geno married the love of his life, Rose Suehring. While they were expecting their second child, he was offered the opportunity to try out for the Green Bay Packers. He turned them down, as there was more money in his wholesale meat business than there was to be made as a professional athlete. Geno and Rose went on to have a total of seven children, each with a lifetime of memories of the legend that was their father. After 35 years of owning his business, he retired to Rosholt. There, Geno took up many hobbies. He enjoyed fishing on Penny Lake and woodworking, making countless clocks for his many friends and relatives. He even published two books, Cry Not For Spring and Operation H.E.R.M.E.S. and wrote many others. Geno is survived by his Wife: Rose, his Cat, Spooky Also, Children: Glenn (Linda) Mancel of Rosholt, Gregg (Susie Barnhouse) Mancel of Wausau, Jeff Mancel, of Rosholt, Marla (Shaffer) Wimbish, of Rosholt, Scott (Sarah) Mancel of Green Bay, Lisa Kielblock of Rosholt, and Gina (Timothy) Ready of Savannah, GA.
