Donald Edward Wasrud, age 87, passed away at The Willows on Saturday, July 20, 2024. He was born on December 05, 1936 to Royal V. Wasrud, Sr. and Josephine M. (Moser) Wasrud.
He is a graduate of Iola High School and went into military service with the U.S. Navy as a machinist mate for four years. He worked at Waupaca Foundry after the service, then worked on the farm with his parents. He met and married Dawn A. (Woltmann) Wasrud on August 04, 1973, in Waupaca, Wisconsin at Shepherd of the Lakes Church. Donald worked side by side with his wife Dawn as dairy farmers at DEW Acres, their farm. In his younger years he enjoyed riding motorcycle, bowling on Silver Lake Lanes bowling leagues, and serving on the Scandinavia Volunteer Fire Department.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Dawn Wasrud; parents, Royal, Sr. and Josephine Wasrud; his sister, Dorothy Wasrud; his brothers: Keith Wasrud, Royal, Jr. (Eileen) Wasrud, Robert Wasrud; nephew, Randy Wasrud.
He is survived by his daughter, Diane (Dean) Doersch; granddaughters: Danielle Stull, Dara (Adam) Clifford, DeAnna (Brok Mende) Doersch, and Delaney (Carter Uslabar) Doersch, along with great-granddaughter Miram Clifford. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, several nieces and nephews, and their spouses.
The funeral service will be held at Scandinavia Lutheran Church at 01:00 PM on Friday, July 26, 2024 with Reverend Kent Wallace officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 01:00 PM preceding the funeral. Interment will be at Scandinavia Lutheran Church Cemetery in Scandinavia.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at King Veteran's Home, The Willows, and Heartland Hospice care for the compassionate care they gave Donald during his time with them.
