David Hanna

David G. Hanna passed away peacefully Friday, November 24,2023 at his home, Northcrest Assisted Living Facility, Stevens Point where he had resided the past four years. Mr. Hanna was born in 1946 and lived in Rosholt WI until relocating to Stevens Point in 2000. Following the completion of his early education, he worked briefly as a Library Aide for the Rosholt School System. He then used the transportation services of Community Industries and worked as a Laundry Aide at the Portage County Health Care Center. After several years there, he worked for many years as a Dishwasher at The Restaurant at Sentry. Tiring of kitchen work, Mr. Hanna worked as a Clerk's Aide, then as a Utility Worker for Shoneys until he retired. In addition to his employment, Mr. Hanna continued his education at MSTC where he eventually received the Mae Francis White Lifelong Learning Award. With the partnership of his friend, Jed Buza, Mr. Hanna received a state award for work advocating for themselves and others with disabilities. The partners received the Jim Wolfe Memorial Award from The Arc-WI Disability Association. He also volunteered with area not-for-profits. He loved belonging to his congregation in Rosholt and then the Beloved Community in Stevens Point. Mr. Hanna is preceded in death by his parents, Belva and Frank Hanna and his brother, James Hanna. Mr. Hanna was a friend of many. And he enjoyed the care of the Northcrest staff who cared for him as family. In the final years of life his friends, Nancy Hornick, Mary Meyer, and Joan Honl remained faithful. The Graveside Service for David will be held at The Northland Lutheran Cemtery in Iola on Friday, December 8, 2023 at 1:00 PM.
