Daniel R. Mcdowell

Daniel R. (Dan) McDowell Dan was born November 8, 1939, to the late Oliver and Geraldine (Caldwell) McDowell in Oconto, WI. Dan passed away on July 19, 2022, the result of numerous strokes over the past nine years. On August 19, 1961, Dan was married to Muriel Huisman in Oconto, WI. They later divorced. On June 30, 1984, Dan was married to Karen Printz in Waupaca, WI. Together they shared 38 years of marriage. Dan graduated from Oconto High School, University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh, and the University of Denver with a Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling. He taught in Denver, CO, and Elkhorn, WI before being hired at the Tomorrow River Schools in Amherst. There he taught biology before becoming the Guidance Counselor and served in that position until his retirement in 1987. Dan really enjoyed his 31+ years working with the students and enjoyed hearing from some of his former students from time to time after his retirement. Dan was a member of the Iola United Methodist Church. Visitation will be at Voie Funeral Home, Iola, WI September 28, 2022, from 4-7 PM and again at the Iola United Methodist Church, 190 W Iola Street, Iola, WI on September 29, 2022 from 10:00 - 10:45 AM with a Celebration of Life to follow at 11 :00. The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Living Oaks and The Willows in Iola for the wonderful care he was given. We all made some wonderful friendships there. Dan is survived by his wife Karen his children, Suzanne (Kerry) Romsa, Valerie McDowell, David McDowell and his daughter Kayley, and Patricia (Kristopher) Sjogren and their daughter MacKenzie, his step children, Dawn (Daniel) Grossbier and David (Kori) Printz and their children Ava and Emma. He is also survived by his sisters Nancy Schmidt, Patricia Meyer, and his brother Thomas (Jean) McDowell. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Carolyn Peshek. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.
