Alice Mae Nielsen

November 6, 1943 — January 28, 2024

On Sunday, January 28, 2024, Alice (Lindner) Nielsen of Iola, WI went to be at home with Jesus, at the age of 80. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family after an eleven-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Alice was born November 6, 1943, to John and Loriena (Humke) Lindner of Greenwood WI. Alice graduated from Greenwood High School in 1961. She attended Wood County Teachers College and UWSP. She married Roger Nielsen on May 29, 1965 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood WI.

Alice taught lower elementary grades in the Greenwood school district for 22 years. She retired to become a full-time farm wife working with Roger on their dairy farm. They farmed for a total of 21 years, before leaving the farm to move to Iola, WI to be closer to Amy and the grandkids. Once the grandkids where in school she started substitute teaching in Iola and did that for about 10 years. She enjoyed teaching and her students loved her.

Alice enjoyed many things, reading, entertaining, knitting, scrapbooking, quilting and crafts in general. She also loved flowers and was a member of the local garden club. She enjoyed spending time with Roger and his ministry at St. John’s Lutheran Church, as they shared their love of Jesus Christ with many people. Alice loved spending time with her friends, if it was quilting at church, over coffee or over a meal, she had so many wonderful friends that she truly loved. Her most cherished times where spending time with her family, her biggest smiles were for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Alice is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Roger. Alice is survived by their only child, Amy (Daniel) Bestul; grandchildren, John Bestul and Jordan Bestul; great grandchildren: Ellaina, Lukas and Allison; sisters: Karen Martens and Dianne Lindner; brother in-law, Wayne (Diane) Nielsen; sister in-law, Sharon (Edward) Bushman; and many loving nieces and nephews.
