Marie J. Matson, age 91, of Waupaca, passed away April 24, 2010 at Crystal River Nursing & Rehabilition Center in Waupaca. Marie was born January 9, 1919, in Duluth MN., daughter of the late Ole and Mary (Johnson) Weeks. Marie's mother died in the flu epidemic in 1919, when Marie was only 10 days old. After her mother's death, Marie and her sister, Margaret, were raised by her mother's parents in Colburn Township in Chippewa County. After her marriage to Hans Matson on August 19, 1950 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Stanley, Hans and Marie moved to Waupaca where they lived their entire lives. He passed away on July 18, 1999. Marie spent her many years helping others that was her hobby. She had worked at the Homme Home of Wittenberg and then for many years as a Certified Nursing Aide at Crystal River in Waupaca which was known as Riverview at the time. Marie was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca for 60 years. She is survived by: Son: Dennis (Cathy) Matson, Iola, Daughter: Sue Austin, Wild Rose, Half brother: Richard (Gladys) Weeks, Minneapolis, MN. 4 Grandchildren: Ben Matson, Heidi (Billy) Fowler, Greg (Nikki) Austin, and Wes Austin. 4 Great Grandchildren: Ronan and Declan Fowler, Hannah and Landon Austin. She was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Berg. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 @ 11:00 AM , at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca. The Rev. Dr. Charles Tews will officiate. Friends may call from 9:30 AM until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in the Northland Lutheran Cemetery, Town of Harrison, Waupaca County.
