Carl A. Martin, age 95, of Iola, WI. passed away September 20, 2017, at Iola Living Assistance, Iola, Wisconsin. Carl was born in Marquette, Michigan, on July 9, 1922, son of the late Thomas and Cecelia (Pantalone) Martin. He married Betty Messner on June 5, 1947 in Marquette, Michigan. She preceded him in death on April 11, 2017. Carl was a WWII veteran, who was inducted in the US Marine Corps on April 17, 1942. He was awarded the Rifle Marksman on June 3, 1943 and 2nd Class Browning Machine Gunner on September 14, 1943. Carl was wounded in action on September 15, 1944 on Peleliu Island for which he received his Purple Heart. His honorable discharge from service was on June 26, 1945. He was a printer by trade, having worked for the John Guelff Printing Co. before entering the service and later for The Daily Reporter both in Milwaukee. Carl was a fun loving man who loved his wife and family first and foremost. Then his other love were hunting, golfing, bowling, dancing, fishing, playing cards, afternoon cocktails, watching sports, his westerns, and the birds and wildlife in the beautiful backyard. Of course we can't forget how he loved to flirt with his nurses. Carl is survived by his four children: Robin Martin, of Ocoee, FL., Diana (Darrell) Anderson, of Iola, Debbie (Bob) Brown, of West Bend, Carla (Chuck) Emmrich, of Crivitz, and daughter-in-law: Joyce Martin, of Leesburg, FL. He is further survived by 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson, plus nieces, nephews, and cousins. Carl was preceded in death by 3 sisters, 1 brother, and numerous other relatives. A Memorial Service will be held 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Northland Lutheran Church with the Rev. Daniel Somers officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 12 NOON until the time of service at the Church. Carl's family would like to extend a very special thank you to Iola Living Assistance and St. Michael's Hospital in Stevens Point for all of the wonderful care he received.
