Don J. Remington, age 89, of Iola, died Wednesday, January 6th, at Ministry St. Michael's Hospital, in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Don was born in Antigo Wisconsin, on March 1, 1926, son of the late Charles "Roy" and Eunice (Bessey) Remington. He married Dorothy Golis on July 19, 1947 in Baltimore, Maryland. Don was a WWII Army veteran, serving from October 30, 1945 to March 15, 1947. He served in Germany as a tank destroyer in Division 636. In 2011, Don flew to Washington, DC on the "Honor Flight". He was a member of the Sheveland Taylor Post # 14 He had worked as as a meat cutter and later supervisor for Copps. In 1966, he and his wife purchased Adam's IGA from Adam Horle and renamed it Iola IGA. In 1980, Don and Dot built a new store on Meadow Road in Iola. In 1995, they sold the store to their son, Dan. Don was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He was a great story teller. He was a member of the Purple Martins. Don loved music. He played several instruments and was a barbershop singer. For years, he enjoyed the Iola Aquatic Center. Don is survived by: his Wife, Dorothy "Dot" Remington, Sons Dale (Wendy L.) Remington, of Iola. Dan (Kathy) Remington, of Scandinavia. Dean (Wendy J.) Remington, of Manawa and Rick (Heather) Remington, of Menomonie; Sister-in-law Bonnie Bell and Brother-in-law Donald (Patricia) Golis, both of Delaware. Don was also survived by 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: two sons Darrell and Rex Remington, a brother, Jack Remington and two sisters, Vera Tveton and Jean Freiburger. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, Waupaca, Wisconsin, at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 12th, 2016 with Father Xavier Santiago officiating.
