Leona M. Helgeson

Leona M. Helgeson Leona Helgeson, age 96, of Iola, died Sunday, September 21, 2014 at Iola Living Assistance. Leona was born in New Hope, WI., on January 30, 1918, the daughter of the late Martin and Carrie (Johnson) Satre. She married Joseph Helgeson on October 10, 1940 in Iowa. He preceded her in death on October 1, 1962. As a young woman, Leona moved to Chicago with her sister and had worked as a nanny. She would later work at Zwickers Knitting Mill and then as a cook for the Iola Nursing Home for many years. Leona was a good, kind, and loving Mother and Grandmother. She enjoyed playing cards. and was an excellent baker and cook. Leona made lefse with Sylvia Olson which many of the local people enjoyed. Leona is survived by: a son, James (Marcia) Helgeson and a daughter, Joan (Rudy) Seul. Six grandchildren: John (Erin) Helgeson, Eric (Jill) Helgeson, Jeff ( Lorelei) Helgeson, Joe Seul, Chris (Tina) Seul and Paul (Jamie) Seul: She is further survived by seven great grandchildren: Kalee, Tripp, Alek and Brandon Helgeson and Jacob, Aura, and Layla Seul; and a sister: Donna Locey. She was preceded by in death by: a son, Joel "Tom" Helgeson, and three sisters: Eunice Barta, Alma Dobbe, and Lillian Martin. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Northland Lutheran Church with Reverend Dan Somers officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday from NOON until the time of service at the church. Interment will be in the Northland Lutheran Cemetery Town of Harrison, Wisconsin. Memorials may be given in memory of Leona to the Iola Living Assistance Voie Funeral Home of Iola assisting the family with arrangements.
