LaVerne M. Anderson, age 87, of Iola, died Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca. LaVerne was born in Northland, Wisconsin on May 4, 1926 son of the late Lee and Elida (Olson) Anderson. He married Marcella Thulien on December 28, 1950 at the Scandinavia Lutheran Church Parsonage. LaVerne graduated from Scandinavia High School in 1944. He was an US Army veteran serving from 1950-1952. LaVerne entered the Army doing his basic training at Granite City, IL., his firing range at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. and then was stationed in Pusan, South Korea. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he had worked for Madison Silo Co., did some farming, logging for Olson Mill, HO Wolding, Waupaca County Highway Dept. and the Village of Iola. LaVerne had been Secretary-Treasurer for the Waupaca County Highway Department Union. His hobbies were gas engines, attending gas engines shows, playing accordian, listening to polka music and going to polka dances. LaVerne is survived by: wife, Marcella, Iola; his children: Larry Anderson, Plover, Jim Anderson, Waupaca, Ernie Anderson, Iola, Lynn (LeeAllen) Wilhelm, Iola, Debbie Anderson, Iola, and Lisa Anderson, Iola. His grandchilden: Mike Wilhelm, Stevens Point, Donna (Jose) Martinez, Crystal City, TX., Heather Anderson, Plover, Matt Anderson, Plover, Amy (Russ) Crabb, New London, Luke Anderson, Waupaca, Zach Anderson, Waupaca, Adam Anderson, Waupaca, and Carrie (Luke) Epstein, Weyauwega; Great Grandchildren: Rebecca, Nicole, Jose, Nathaniel, Noah, Nicholas, Barrett, Jimmy, Flynn, Caleb, Emma, Lucas, Dakota, and Brennan. LaVerne is further survived by a sister, Viola Anderson, Big Falls, and a brother, Allan (Rosalind) Anderson, Iola, and four half sisters, Shirley, Ethel, Melva, and Margaret, all of Montana. He was preceded in death by: an infant daughter, 2 infant sisters and a brother, Russell. A Funeral Service will be held at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Iola, Wisconsin, at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 with Reverend Dennis Olson officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday 4-7 PM at Voie Funeral Home in Iola and Wednesday 9:30 AM until the time of service at the church. Interment will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery Iola, Wisconsin.
