Alice M. Somers

Alice Marie Somers, age 86, of Waupaca, was peacefully called to eternal rest on Tuesday, September 10th, 2013 at Bethany Home in Waupaca. Alice was born in Franklinville, New York on November 14, 1926, the youngest daughter of the late Lars and Mary (Miller) Larson. The family moved to a Medford Wisconsin farm where Alice and her siblings were raised. She married Everett "Ev" Somers on October 8th, 1971. He preceded her in death on July 21, 2009. Alice and Ev owned Ev's Red Owl and later Ev's Supermarket in Waupaca, where she worked hand in hand with Ev in the business. She was an active member of Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church. Alice loved the Lord, and always focused on the positive side of those she met and the challenges she faced. She enjoyed entertaining friends and spending time with family. She and Ev retired to their John's Lake home in Wautoma and wintered in Mercedes TX. She was an avid Green Bay Packers fan, win or lose. Alice is survived by her Children: Jim (Cindy) Johnson of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Carol (Al) Schmidt of Berlin, Mary Stevens of Sitka, Alaska, Dave (Lori) Johnson of Wautoma, Larry (Beth) Somers of Iola, Debbie (Steve) Peterson of Owen, Tammy (Special Friend: Rick) Somers of Vernon, New Jersey, Sister: Susan Gauger of Westchester PA Grandchildren: Michelle (Angelo) Carini, Adam (Shannon) Johnson, Amanda Johnson, Aaron Johnson, Krystle Somers, Trisha (Luke) Severt, Brittany Peterson, Logan Peterson, Scott Magill & Brandon (Crystel) Magill, 6-Great Grandchildren She was preceded in death by: 4-Brothers and 4-Sisters and a Grandson: Tyler Peterson. A Memorial Service will be held at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church in Waupaca at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 20th, with Reverend Loren Fritz officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment of cremains will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Winona, Minnesota. A memorial fund has been established in the name of Alice Marie Somers. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at both Bethany Pines and Bethany Home for the loving care and compassion they provided Alice these past six years. You all were like family to her.
