Jean M. Loken, age 77, of Iola, died Thursday, July 4th, 2013 at Riverside Medical Center, Waupaca, Wisconsin. Jean was born in Amherst, Wisconsin on August 7, 1935, the daughter of the late Arthur and Bernice (Dwinell) Thompson. She married Donald Loken at Our Savior's Lutheran Church on June 26, 1954. Jean had worked in food service and then as a cook for the Iola-Scandinavia Schools for 17 years. She enjoyed gardening, collecting Avon bottles, sewing, and was an avid reader. She loved babysitting and was known as "Grandma Jean" to many children especially Janel's day care kids. Jean enjoyed giving back to her community by volunteering at the Iola Car Show since 1976, doing Meals on Wheels for over 15 years and with her family prepared the annual Thanksgiving Day dinner at Our Savior's for 20 years. She was active in her church rummaging for items for the layettes and was a member of the Naomi Circle. As a teenager she played the piano for the junior choir at the church, competed in solo ensemble and forensics and was an excellent swimmer and ice skater. Over the years, Jean enjoyed going to her children's and grandchildren's activities and spending time with family and friends. Her family was her pride and joy. Jean is survived by her husband of 59 years, Don; her children, Kim Loken, Dale (Pam) Loken, Kathryn Loken, Janel (Jon) Peterson, Jill (Terry) Lodewegen, and Jon (Susan) Loken. Her grandchildren, Joshua Loken, Taylor Lodewegen, Riley Peterson, Seth Loken, Austin Drapes, Carley Peterson, Joseph Loken, Connor Lodewegen and Faith Loken. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Catherine and Mary Elizabeth and a brother, Thomas. Funeral Service will be held Monday, July 8, 2013 @ 11:00 AM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Iola, Wisconsin, with Reverend Dennis Olson officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday 2-7 PM. at Voie Funeral Home in Iola and Monday 9:30 AM until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery, Town of Scandinavia, Wisconsin. A Memorial has been established in Jean's name.
