Irene E. Olson

Irene Ella Olson, 87, of Iola, died Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at Iola Living Assistance. Irene was born in Nelsonville, Wisconsin on December 25, 1923, the daughter of the late Hans and Gertle (Anderson) Beckland. Irene married Hanford Olson on August 9, 1945 at the Northland Lutheran Church parsonage. He preceded her in death on July 7, 1987. Irene worked on the family farm with Hanford while also raising a family. She also had worked in the laundry at Iola Hospital, Adam's Bakery, and Bob's Market. Irene was a wonderful cook, loved reading, and enjoyed working at the lutefisk suppers at Northland Lutheran Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, whose family was very important to her. She is survived by: Her Children: Duane (Carol) Beckland Fort Morgan, CO. Roxann (Gary) Johnson Scandinavia John (Cathie) Olson Winter Garden, FL. Mark (Mary) Olson Waupaca. Dell (Julie) Olson Iola Son in law: Tom Thorn Iola. Irene is also survived by: 19 Grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant Son: John H., One Daughter: Judy Thorn, Two Sisters: Joan Beckland & Arlane Bierderman; Three Brothers: George, Andy and Jim Beckland and a Grandson: Tim Thorn. Funeral Service will be held at Northland Lutheran Church, Iola, Wisconsin, at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 28, 2011 with Reverend Dan Somers officiating. Friends may call Sunday from 4-7 PM at the Voie Funeral Home in Iola and again Monday from 9:30 AM until the time of service at the church. Interment will be in the Northland Lutheran Cemetery Town of Harrison, Wisconsin In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Northland Lutheran Church.
